SOLE Coalition Supports Cinco de Mayo Celebration

Cinco de Mayo at Los Jalapenos
Just a week before Cinco de Mayo, Timothy Wolf Starr from the SBB called to say that one of their local business members, Los Jalapenos, needed a permit to sell alcohol at their first big Cinco de Mayo celebration. Could SOLE, through their fiscal sponsor, Simply Living, partner with Los Jalapenos to obtain the permit? Chuck Lynd quickly contacted the Simply Living board and got the OK to proceed. A quick check with the liquor license agency indicated that the normal review process would take 30 days, but they indicated that they would try to accommodate a last minute application.

So the “F Permit” process was started and Chuck met with Walter Eguez, the owner of Los Jalapenos in Reynoldsburg. Together they worked to fill out the form, which included measuring the dimensions of the parking lot where the festival would take place in front of the restaurant. The diagram was created and the manager of the shopping mall was contacted for her signature, but time was closing in. Wolf then contacted his attorney, Alex Hastie, to help speed the process of getting the application notarized and approved by the local police in Reynoldsburg. Walter received the approval Friday afternoon before the event on Sunday and breathed a big sigh of relief and gratitude. Alex said his law office called it the “Miracle permit.”

The best news is that Walter Equez organized an awesome event both inside and outside Los Jalapenos! This was the first year of the celebration and Walter is eager to use this year’s experience in planning for next year. Walter sent a check to SOLE for $500 for our help in sponsoring the event. We really appreciate the income and look forward to working with Walter in the future.

Chuck Lynd attended the event with some Simply Living friends. He reported that “We enjoyed the singing and vendors and watching the kids activities outside and we enjoyed a delicious dinner inside. Highly recommended! ”

SOLE is now working on another F permit to help Celebrate Local offer a series of Wine Tastings this summer at the Farmers Market at Easton Town Center. The first one is scheduled for June 20 - mark your calendar to stop by for some excellent Ohio wine!
