Gathering of Local Independent Businesses

SOLE Coalition (Support Our Local Economy Coalition) will be hosting a gathering for independent business owners on Sunday Sept. 30th, 2012 from 4-5:30 pm.

We are looking for business owner input into the future of our economy in Central Ohio. Specifically from those of you who own independent businesses and are outspoken supporters of the Central Ohio community.

  • What are the needs of your business that are not being met?
  • What are the opportunities that you see to expand your business? What is holding you back?
  • How can we strengthen the fabric of the local business community?
  • Do you talk to other business owners on a regular basis? Do you have channels to communicate with your peers?

Help us determine the next steps for the work of the SOLE coalition.

We’ll use this gathering to collect input about common challenges facing independent businesses in greater Columbus and identify ways that the SOLE coalition can be of assistance.

An example of a need: A group of local producers of wine and beer need a distributor who can fill orders for retailers from a common catalog of products from local producers. A co-op or similar arrangement to develop this business is being explored, but help is needed to locate an entrepreneur willing to create and operate the business.

What’s in it for your business, other than a great networking opportunity? Participants in the gathering will have their business featured on Think Columbus First and SOLE websites, facebook and twitter. We will highlight what makes the business independent, local and unique to our audience of locally minded readers and business leaders all over central Ohio.

Update: The gathering was a success. More details coming soon.
